Fall Computer Classes

Fall Computer Classes

Putnam County Public Library will be offering four computer classes in September.

Our three part computer basics class is currently full. You may still sign up to be put on a waiting list. If a spot opens, we will call you.

  • Friday, September 8th, from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM, Introduction to Computers Part One will help you understand how the computer works will give you the confidence to tackle future tasks on your own. Topics covered, History of Computers, How a Computer Works, Basic Computer Operation, and Mouse Exercises.
  • Friday, September 15th, from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM, part two of our Introduction to Computers series will build on part one by teaching you to understand the words people use when talking about computers.  We will get used to navigating the computer and understanding the why and the how. Topics covered: Applications, Operating Systems, and Hands on with a Graphical User Interface.
  • Friday, September 22nd, from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM, part three of our Introduction to Computers series will build on part two by walking you through the most important parts of your operating system, managing your installed applications, and organizing your personal computer files. We will get used to creating folders, saving files, and learning how to cut, copy, and paste. Topics covered: Files and folders, copy and paste, and adding and removing applications.

On Friday, September 29th, from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM, our Tablets and Smartphones class is for those who need help with a new smartphone or tablet, or are considering making a purchase.  We will discuss the different types of devices available including the Apple iPad, Microsoft Windows tablets, Android-based Google tablets and smartphones.  Attendees will learn basic skills needed to connect to the Internet as well as how to take pictures and videos, use interactive maps, install applications and games, listen to music, and watch movies.  There will also be a demonstration on how to download free content from the library’s website including eBooks, and audiobooks.  Click here to sign up for our Tablets and Smartphone class.

Technology in the Classroom

Putnam County Public Library In Collaboration With Greencastle Community School Corporation
On Monday, September 25th from 5:30 to 7:30 pm, the Putnam County Public Library and the Greencastle Community School Corporation will present Technology in the Classroom. C.J. Shields, the Technology Integrator for Greencastle Community Schools and Michael Acsbok, the Technology Director at Putnam County Public Library will give parents an overview of iPad use, Windows 10, Canvas, Google Drive, Notability, and Digital Citizenship as well as answer questions. Technology in the Classroom will be held in the Kiwanis Room of the Putnam County Public Library and is an effort to position the library as a partner with the school system, providing supplemental educational resources, internet access, technical support, and training to both parents and students.

All classes are for beginners and are free and open to the public but registration is required since space is limited. Classes are two hours long with a break.
