Part-Time Reference Assistant (Local History)

The Putnam County Public Library is looking for a Part-Time Reference Assistant in the Local History department to help patrons with a variety of requests. This position will support the library’s Archivist by performing general tasks, providing research assistance to library patrons, maintaining physical and digital collections, and other duties as needed. 

Candidates must have strong computer and general technology skills and be comfortable learning new applications. Candidates must also have strong customer service and communication skills (both written and verbal), patience in working with a wide range of patron needs, a willingness to collaborate with patrons both onsite and online, and adaptability in all situations. Experience proofreading or dealing with handwritten documents is a plus. A bachelor’s degree in a related field is preferred.

Job Details:

  • Part-time w/out benefits
  • 12-15 hr/wk
  • Some nights and weekends will be required
  • Salary range  $11.00 - $15.00/hour commensurate with experience and/or credentials

Marketing and Communications Director

The Putnam County Public Library is seeking a dedicated Marketing and Communications Director.  This position will support multiple departments by promoting the library in general, as well as specific library events, through creative marketing and communication in order to increase community awareness of and involvement in library programs and services.

Duties include creating and coordinating marketing materials for library programs and events, harnessing and maintaining the promotional aspects of the library’s website and its social media presence, creating and distributing advertisements within Putnam County, weekly announcements and press releases, and creating and publishing the library’s monthly calendar of events and quarterly newsletter.                          

The Marketing and Communications Director will also serve as liaison to the community, the local and regional press, as well as various community organizations and will be required to represent the library at outreach and special programming events.

Candidates should have strong computer and technology skills including a working knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite, WordPress, Mailchimp, various social media platforms, and Google Suite. Knowledge of HTML/CSS and experience with video and/or podcast creation is a plus. Strong written communication and customer service skills are essential, as is a willingness to collaborate both onsite and online and the ability to work independently and prioritize tasks to meet deadlines.
