Part-Time Circulation Assistant

The Putnam County Public Library is looking for a part-time Circulation Assistant to work at the front desk of the library.  Circulation is a very active and engaging area of the library where customer service and staff collaboration are paramount to success.

The ideal candidate will be detail-oriented, have strong communication skills, be able to stand for long periods of time, and remain flexible with their schedule.  Good computer skills (particularly Windows OS) and phone skills are essential. This is not a library professional position, and so while no previous library experience is required, an appreciation for library service is a must!

Basic Job Duties include:  greeting patrons, checkout/checkin of library materials, working with patron records, answering phones, shelving materials, and other duties as needed

Job Details:

Part-time w/out benefits

Some nights and weekends will be required

Salary range is $9.00 - $12.00 an hour

Part-Time Reference Assistant

The Putnam County Public Library is looking for a Part-Time Reference Assistant to help patrons with a variety of requests and support needs.  This position will support Adult Reference by performing general tasks and providing routine assistance to library patrons. Duties include assisting patrons in finding resources online and onsite, providing patrons with computer and photocopier/scanner assistance, assisting in reader’s advisory and/or some collection development work, maintaining some physical collections (books, DVDs, video games, etc), and other duties as needed.  The position will also support technology services by providing general user support (basic troubleshooting, online reference, search assistance, and digital literacy).

Candidates must have strong computer and general technology skills, interest in digital literacy and 21st century librarianship, strong communication and customer service skills, patience in working with a wide range of patron needs, a willingness to collaborate both onsite and online, and be open to learning new skills and tools on the job.  A bachelor’s degree in a related field is preferred.

15-25 hr/wk

Some nights and weekends may be required

Salary range  $9.00 - $14.00/hour commensurate with experience and/or credentials
